At Victory House, our mission is to challenge the stigmas related to mental health, addictions and partner violence, by advocating and supporting individuals in every stage of the recovery journey.

Challenging Stigma’s

According to the National Institute of Health, individuals with substance use and mental health disorders face 3 types of stigma’s:

Structural Stigma: Discrimination by public and private institutions, criminal justice system, education institutions etc.

Public Stigma: The public’s belief about individual’s living with mental health and addiction diagnosis, and these stigmas are reinforced by the structural policies and procedures put in effect.

Self Stigma: Structural and public stigma eventually manifests into self-stigma in which individuals begin to feel negative about themselves and their place in society.
