FAITH-BASED SERVICES
In Indiana, 34% of the incarcerated population is African American; only 9% of the state’s total population is African American (Criminal Legal Reform | ACLU of Indiana, 2017). The African American incarceration rate has grown 250% since 1978. In 2017, African American individuals were incarcerated at 4.4 times the rate of Caucasian individuals (Incarceration Trends in Indiana, 2019). These statistics are in stark contrast to the percentage of those with similar demographics currently incarcerated and receiving referrals for mental health and substance abuse services in Indiana.
Victory House has partnered with the Division of Mental Health and Addictions to assist in addressing the disparities listed above, by providing faith based services in the minority community. Services are provided by minority faith-based agencies who provide services in predominantly minority neighborhoods. Services are open to individuals of all races, gender and backgrounds.
At Victory House, our services are guided by 2 principles:
We affirm the truth, that talent takes us where character keeps us.
We blend contentment with intensity, and this creates opportunities.
